Agent Carter gets premiere date, will link to Iron Man 2

ABC has revealed when we can expect to see Marvel’s special televised ‘event series’, Agent Carter. The Marvel Cinematic Universe-set period miniseries will make its debut on Tuesday, January 6th, 2015. It will occupy the timeslot of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., at 9:00 P.M. EST.

Agent Carter - Comic ArtThe eight-episode miniseries will air until Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015, at which point, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return in place of Agent Carter, to finish up its currently-airing second season.

Marvel also revealed that Agent Carter will connect to another Marvel Cinematic Universe movie aside from Captain America: The First Avenger as well. The miniseries will also detail a key backstory from Iron Man 2, specifically for Anton Vanko, the father of Ivan Vanko, one of the main villains of Iron Man 2, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe interpretation of Iron Man nemesis, Whiplash.

In the Marvel printed pages, Anton Vanko is also the original Crimson Dynamo, another frequent Iron Man foe. The name is now also being shared by another man of no relation, the current Marvel Comics Universe version of Whiplash, who is meant to more closely resemble the Ivan Vanko Whiplash from Iron Man 2.Costa Ronin - Extant

Vanko Sr.’s younger incarnation will be portrayed by Extant’s Costa Ronin, and Agent Carter will detail his working history with Howard Stark, recently confirmed to be reprised by Dominic Cooper from Captain America: The First Avenger. In Iron Man 2, Vanko was accused of illictly selling Howard’s prototype arc reactor technology, and was deported back to Russia, where he ended up being incarcerated for a lengthy stint in Siberia, with the family’s reputation disgraced. A big part of the movie’s plot involved Anton’s son, Ivan Vanko taking revenge on the Stark family for what he believed to be his father’s wrongful dishonouring, specifically Howard’s heir, Tony as villain, Whiplash.
