Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond are leaving Xbox

Today’s biggest surprise news comes to us from the headquarters of Xbox, where a big shakeup is occurring.

According to reports, Phil Spencer is retiring from his role, and Sarah Bond is also leaving Xbox. Matt Booty, meanwhile, has been promoted to Chief Content Officer.

Stepping in as the new CEO of Microsoft Gaming is Asha Sharma, who previously worked as the President of Microsoft’s CoreAI team.

Phil Spencer had been with Microsoft since 1988, and became the face of Xbox in recent years. Sarah Bond was expected to be his successor, but it’s likely that all of the issues and bad press led to this shakeup, not to mention the obvious decline of the Xbox brand in stores and in terms of third party support.

Hopefully this will end up being a positive thing for Xbox, its studios and its gamers.
