Have you ever wanted to explore the vast and beautiful world featured within the Horizon series? Well, Guerrilla Games’ Horizon: Hunters Gathering may be just what your doctor ordered.
Announced today, Horizon: Hunters Gathering is described as being a co-operative action adventure for up to four players, in which they’ll work together to protect the world from deadly machines. They’ll do so using tactical, reactive, and skill-based combat.
The foundation of Horizon: Hunters Gathering centers on challenging, replayable hunts. So far, two game modes have been revealed:
- Machine Incursion, a high-intensity mission in which waves of machines pour out from underground gateways, led by a formidable boss.
- Cauldron Descent, a longer, multi-stage trial where ever-changing rooms push Hunters to their limits—from brutal machine encounters to hidden doors that promise power and rewards for teams prepared to open them.
Both modes will be made available during an upcoming closed beta test (through the PlayStation Beta Program) on PC and PS5.
Upon starting, players will choose from a roster of unique hunters, all of whom have their own ranged or melee specializations. Then, they’ll develop and choose other skills through a rogue-lite perk system, allowing each person to craft their own hero.
The game will feature a narrative system, which is currently under wraps and, within it, each hunter will have his or her own back story and motivation. There will also be mysteries to uncover, plot points to our and an overarching story. This is a canon narrative, and one that won’t end at launch.
After exploring different regions and doing battle within them, players will then return to a hub known as Hunters Gathering, where they can connect, prepare and celebrate victories. Furthermore, this space will allow them to customize their Hunters, upgrade gear, and team up with others.
The first small, closed, beta test for Horizon: Hunters Gathering will occur at the end of February.
