OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty (finally) hitting new platforms in February and March

The OddWorld franchise made a fantastic comeback with its original game’s remake, OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty! last year, which came to PlayStation 4 last July. Problem is, the game was actually planned for ports on several other current platforms, which have so far lingered in development hell, even the cross-buy PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions that were promised to go along with the original PlayStation 4 release!

OddWorld - GameplayAt long last however, OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty! is ready to expand to some new homes. Publisher, OddWorld Inhabitants has confirmed that the game’s PC, Mac and Linux versions will come to Steam on February 25th, for $19.99, slightly reduced from the PlayStation 4 version’s $29.99 asking price. Pre-order purchasers can also enjoy a 20% discount before the game releases on computers. The Steam build will feature Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud saving, online leaderboards, Quick Save and Quick Load functions, and various post-launch improvements made to the original PlayStation 4 build, including an old-school control scheme.

For those wondering about the status of the upcoming console builds, all but one of them have a more specific window now as well. OddWorld Inhabitants confirms that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox One versions of OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty! will launch in March, though they didn’t provide any further details. They did confirm however that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox One versions would include the post-launch updates to the original PlayStation 4 build, and since the PlayStation builds are cross-buy, anyone who already bought the PlayStation 4 edition will score the PlayStation 3 port for free.

This just leaves the PlayStation Vita port and Wii U port of OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty! up in the air. Developer, Just Add Water has apparently been struggling a bit with development on these platforms, with the PlayStation Vita’s compressed portable hardware being an issue, and the Wii U version providing hurdles with Wii U Gamepad integration, and the lack of an internal hard disk. OddWorld Inhabitants stresses however that the PlayStation Vita and Wii U versions have not been canceled, and they are still going to see the light of day, even if it will be after Q1 2015.OddWorld - Gameplay 2

OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty! is a fully re-engineered remake of the original OddWorld: Abe’s Oddysee, which became a cult hit on PlayStation and PC back in 1997. The game is a 2.5D puzzle-platformer with a macabre, yet humourous presentation, featuring alien protagonist, Abe having to escape a processing plant that is turning his fellow Mudokon kinsmen into meat products. The remake received immense praise in its original PlayStation 4 release, and is considered to be one of 2014’s best overall PlayStation 4 games, on the PlayStation Store or otherwise.
