OddWorld: Abe’s Exoddus remake announced

With OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty! proving itself an incredible success since it launched as a timed PlayStation 4 exclusive last year, OddWorld Inhabitants has announced that they are moving ahead with plans to develop a similar remake of the original game’s successor, OddWorld: Abe’s Exoddus!

OAE - Gameplay 1The new remake was announced by OddWorld Inhabitants boss, Lorne Lanning during a Twitch stream. Apparently, the OddWorld: Abe’s Exoddus remake is very early in development, and materialized because of the highly positive fan response to OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty!, which was a remake of the very first OddWorld game, OddWorld: Abe’s Oddysee. It’s unknown which platforms the untitled remake may be headed for, but it’s probable that the same platforms of OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty! will be targeted, specifically, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Linux, and Wii U.

Lanning also confirmed that the remake’s official title will be decided by a fan vote to be held at a later date, just as OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty! was named. Apparently, plans for marketing the OddWorld: Abe’s Exoddus remake will be more high-profile and aggressive than that of OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty!, and its success will determine the likelihood of an all-new OddWorld game to follow it, which Lanning plans to push with all of the buzz and polish of a triple-A game release.

Lanning concluded his announcement by confirming that OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty! was downloaded over 2.4 million times on PlayStation 4 alone, when it was offered as a free PlayStation Plus reward recently, making it a huge success. This doesn’t even count paid PlayStation 4 sales, nor sales on Steam, PlayStation 3, or Xbox One. Obviously, this also won’t account for the still-in-development ports of OddWorld: New ‘n’ Tasty! for PlayStation Vita and Wii U as well.OAE - Gameplay 2

OddWorld: Abe’s Exoddus continues the story of Abe, the alien Mudokon protagonist of the original game, and originally released for PlayStation and PC in 1998. A cinematic puzzle-platformer, players have Abe once again trying to stop the machinations of the evil Glukkons, who are using his fellow Mudokons to produce a soft drink called SoulStorm Brew, which is made from Mudokon bones and tears.
