News regarding the identity of EA Sports’ chosen NHL 21 cover athlete was late coming out. In more traditional, non-COVID years, the cover star is usually revealed at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas, and sometimes the fans get to vote beforehand. Of course, that didn’t happen this year thanks to a worldwide pandemic that is unfortunately still ongoing. Thus, EA decided to push the announcement back.

Well, it was recently revealed that Washington Capitals superstar and captain, Alex Ovechkin, will grace NHL 21‘s box art. Today, EA followed up with a project that was developed in partnership with Sportsnet. They call it ‘From Alex to Ovi,’ and it’s a look back at Alex Ovechkin’s life and rise to greatness. Its goal is to educate, entertain and get people hyped for this year’s iteration of Electronic Arts’ annual hockey simulation.

Expect another episode of From Alex to Ovi soon, as we lead up to NHL 21‘s October 16th release date.
