Microsoft made theirs by moving to acquire Activision Blizzard.
Sony did their thing by moving to acquire Bungie.
Now, the last of the big three. Nintendo is acquiring their long-time development partner SRD Co Ltd. in a deal where no financial figures were revealed, though it is said to have “only a minor effect” on the company’s financial statements.
A rare move for Nintendo, the company has decided to bring SRD Co in house after spending the better part of 40 years working with them on games like Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and even Super Mario Bros.
The studio’s most recent project was Game Builder Garage for the Nintendo Switch, a learn-to-program game that launched mid-2021 and was critically well-received.
The deal is expected to close on April 1st, 2022. No, that’s not an early April Fools’ Joke.
