The rumours were correct: Sony does, in fact, have a PlayStation 5 ‘Slim’ in the works, and it’s not far off. In fact, the newer models will be available starting in November. At least, in the United States.
This new PlayStation 5 has been reduced by 30% in terms of volume, and by 18-24% in terms of weight. It’ll come in disc and digital editions, and will feature 1TB of storage, along with a purchasable disc drive. The latter can be added to the digital edition at any time, for a cost of $79.99 USD.
A horizontal stand will ship with the PlayStation 5 ‘Slim’ while a vertical stand will be available for an added cost. Coloured console covers, or plates, will also be sold.
The disc edition of this new PS5 will cost the same as its peer, which is $499.99 USD. Meanwhile, the digital version will be $449.99. Once stores and other retailers sell out of current model PS5s, these will become the regular versions made available to all.
