The rumours were true: Resident Evil 9 is on the horizon, except it’s going to be called Resident Evil: Requiem. It was the biggest announcement at today’s Summer Games Fest, and we can now tell you what we know about it, which is honestly very little.
The game’s trailer seems to suggest that it takes place in a destroyed version of Raccoon City, and may feature a new playable character in FBI Technical Analyst Grace Ashcroft. Rumours suggested that an older Leon would be a playable character, though, alongside Jill Valentine. We will have to see.
It also looks like open world gameplay may factor in.
Here’s the game’s vague blurb from Capcom’s site.
Requiem for the dead. Nightmare for the living.
Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth title in the mainline Resident Evil series.
Prepare to escape death in a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core.
A new era of survival horror begins in 2026. Technological advancements combined with the development team’s depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that’s more immersive than ever before.
Resident Evil: Requiem is set to release on February 27, 2026, for Xbox Series, PlayStation 5 and PC.
