The Shore is finally coming to console

After previously only being available on PC, for the last five years, The Shore: Enhanced Edition is now heading to console. Well, it’s coming to PS5, and will apparently appear on Xbox Series at a later date.

The Shore was developed by Dragonis Games, and features dark, eldritch, horrors. Players had been asking for a console version, the press release states.

“Players had been requesting The Shore on consoles continuously over the years, and I am genuinely glad that through our collaboration with Iphigames, we can finally make the game accessible to even more players. This is a moment we have been working toward for a long time and the Enhanced Edition is the definitive way to experience the island.”

— Ares Dragonis, Founder, Dragonis Games

At the heart of The Shore is a deep and sincere engagement with the Lovecraftian mythos, the literary tradition that H.P. Lovecraft built around cosmic indifference, forbidden knowledge and the terrifying insignificance of humanity in the face of ancient, unknowable forces. This tradition was not merely an aesthetic influence on the game but its philosophical foundation.

Players take on the role of Andrew, a father who arrives on a remote, cursed island in search of his missing daughter. What begins as a desperate search becomes something far darker. Ancient gods lie dormant beneath the island, slowly fracturing reality above. Decaying ruins, twisted landscapes and whispers from beyond the threshold of human comprehension surround Andrew at every turn.

Players must survive encounters with eldritch entities and piece together the truth behind Andrew’s daughter’s fate. Every fragment of knowledge uncovered pulls Andrew deeper into a nightmare shaped by fear, loss and obsession. In true Lovecraftian fashion, some truths were never meant to be known.

  • Explore the Forbidden Island: A dark and abandoned island inspired by Lovecraftian horror, with villages, ruins and strange landscapes.
  • Cosmic Horror Atmosphere: Dark visuals, huge creatures, and unsettling locations create a constant feeling of dread.
  • Uncover a Tragic Story: Learn Andrew’s story through exploration, notes and events that reveal the island’s past.
  • Solve Eerie Puzzles: Solve simple environmental puzzles using logic, observation and strange objects.
  • Face Eldritch Entities: Encounter frightening creatures beyond human understanding.
  • Artifacts of the Old Gods: Use powerful ancient items to survive and move forward, but every power has a cost.
  • Immersive Sound Design: Sounds, whispers, and silence build tension and pull you deeper into the world.

Alongside the digital version, Dragonis games has announced a physical edition, which will combine The Shore and their other game, Necrophosis: Full Consciousness. It is only going to be available for PlayStation 5.

The Shore: Enhanced Edition will be released onto PS5 next week, with its official release date being the 30th of April. As mentioned above, an Xbox Series X/S version will be released sometime later this year.
