The folks at STRTL Games have teased a brand new, cinematic, adventure RPG called .curator. It’s a game that was written by Altered Carbon author, Richard K. Morgan.
“In .curator, players join the Curator Corps and enter a familiar yet distinctly different post-Victorian world, brought to life through beautifully hand-drawn characters and environments. Shaped by political corruption, dangerous technologies, and the relics of an ancient alien civilization, it is a world that dynamically reacts to your choices. With the help of an onboard AI assistant named C.R.I.S.S.I., players can use an advanced predictive technology known as Quantum Sleet to model potential futures and intervene in the present. By modeling potential futures and intervening in the present, the player will embark on a captivating journey to influence and alter the fate of tomorrow.
What players choose to do – and how they choose to do it – can alter the events that follow.
Players can investigate, fight, hide, distract or charm their way through challenging situations. Decisions can determine who lives, who dies, which relationships change and what kind of future ultimately emerges. As the story progresses, players must confront the consequences of their choices and the Curator’s own history of mistakes and crimes. .curator is designed to deliver the atmosphere and presentation of a cinematic science-fiction story without turning the player into a passive observer.“
“.curator blends everything we love about games and movies,” said Oleksii Plaksin, Art Director at STRTL Games. “It delivers a cinematic experience that you actively play rather than passively watch. You make the choices, you alter future events — you’re the Curator.”
Written by Richard K. Morgan, .curator explores the power and responsibility that come with attempting to engineer a better future. Players will investigate corruption at the heart of the ruling regime, uncover the secrets of a mysterious ancient civilization and decide how far they are prepared to go to save humanity from itself.
“One of the great things about the games industry is that it’s constantly pushing the boundaries” explained Richard K. Morgan. “You know that somewhere there’s always someone working on some cool new stuff you’ve never seen before. So when I got invited into the Curator project by this highly talented bunch of guys, a couple of whom I’d already worked with before, I jumped at the chance. What STRTL are offering here is immersion in real storytelling with real consequences, for both the player and the surrounding characters. In a world of ADHD twitch shooters, violent, unremitting gore, and loud, brightly coloured splash and awe, Curator offers something else, something different – a cooler, more thoughtful, more painterly and, ultimately, I think, more humane take on the gaming experience.”
.curator is in development for PC, XBOX Series and PlayStation 5,
