Sony offers $1000 in its first year of PlayStation Plus

PlayStation Plus is one of the best reasons to buy or already own a PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. It may cost $50 per year, but the value you get from it is truly unprecedented. In fact, a Netflix subscription costs double and isn’t as valuable (in our game-playing opinions, anyway).

Sony recently unveiled what they’ve given to gamers in their ‘Instant Game Collection’, and it’s valued at over $1000 in games. In all, 64 game titles were given to members from June 2012 through the end of May 2013, including massive hits like BorderlandsinFAMOUS 2LittleBigPlanet 2Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Ratchet & Clank. Oh, and that was all before the end of 2012. In the last six months of the program, gamers were treated to DarksidersSpec Ops: The LineThe CaveSleeping Dogs, and Demon’s Souls.

The service went portable (via PlayStation Vita) late last year, and it doesn’t seem that Sony is planning on ending this program anytime soon as they called this “YEAR ONE” very emphatically on the graphic they released (pictured below).

Microsoft recently announced their “Games with Gold” program, which lets players get free games on the 1st and 16th of every month as part of their Xbox Live Gold membership. That will end up totalling to around 24 games per year, assuming a two game per month pattern, so we’ll see how valuable that program ends up being.

Are you a PlayStation Plus member? If not, now might be the best time to join!
