Arkham Origins: Blackgate coming to consoles in April

If you’re a strict console gamer with a taste for the Batman: Arkham games that was bummed about missing the portable-exclusive Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate, you’re in luck!

After a leak of an Xbox Live Arcade listing, Warner Bros. has just made the official announcement; Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate will release for consoles and PC, re-branded as Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate: Deluxe Edition. That’s quite a mouthful!

The announcement comes with a new trailer that shows the re-release in action, which will remaster the game’s graphics and sound to take advantage of the added power of its new platforms, only sacrificing portability in the process. It will also come with several exclusive new costumes for Batman that aren’t available in the original portable builds.

Batman- Blackgate - Gameplay 1

Originally released for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita, Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate came to retail and digital channels day-and-date with its sibling game, Batman: Arkham Origins. It is a follow-up story to Batman: Arkham Origins that takes place in the titular Blackgate prison, which has been taken over by several of Batman’s familiar villains, including many that appeared in Batman: Arkham Origins, such as The Joker, The Penguin and Black Mask.

The game also bears the distinction of being the first Batman: Arkham game released on dedicated gaming handhelds, even if the series has seen re-tooled spin-offs on mobile devices such as Batman: Arkham City – Lockdown, and the first to be designed with 2.5D environments, rather than fully three-dimensional exploration.

Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate: Deluxe Edition will again be handled by the original portable offering’s developer, Armature Studio. It will release on April 1st of this year, and will come to PC, Xbox Live Arcade, the PS3’s PlayStation Store, and the Wii U eShop. The price will be $19.99, which is more expensive than most digital games, but also cheaper than the current $29.99-$39.99 price of the retail build for handhelds.
