The Order: 1886 delayed to early 2015

Bad news for PlayStation 4 owners; One of their biggest known exclusives for 2014 has just been bumped into next year.

Developer, Ready at Dawn has confirmed via The PlayStation Blog that The Order: 1886, originally set to debut this Fall, will now be releasing early next year in 2015. The decision no doubt comes from some early hands-on reports, citing that the large-scale PlayStation 4 exclusive was suffering from a number of technical issues in its demo build.

The Order: 1886 takes place in an alternate-history London, England in the 19th Century. It weaves Arthurian legend with monster conspiracy, and involves a secret order of knights that protect the streets from half-breed hybrid monsters that take after both animal and man. It’s essentially an ambitious combination of Castlevania, Assasin’s Creed and BioShock, with developer, Ready at Dawn also citing some light inspiration from Sony’s Uncharted and God of War properties. Appropriately, God of War studio, Sony Santa Monica is also assisting in development of the game.

While The Order: 1886 is set to run at native 1080p HD resolution, its performance will be limited to 30fps at this point, making it a more methodical, albeit more stable PlayStation 4 game in terms of its animation and rendering. Ready at Dawn has also confirmed that the game will be single-player-only, with no plans to incorporate any kind of multiplayer functionality.

The Order: 1886 is confirmed to have a big presence as one of Sony’s marquee PlayStation 4 exclusives at this year’s E3, beginning in just a couple of weeks in June. It will pretty well certainly feature as part of Sony’s E3 keynote, which will take place on June 9th at 6:00 P.M. PDT/9:00 P.M. EST.

With this delay however, Sony’s only big high-profile PlayStation 4 exclusive officially set for release this Fall is now DriveClub, which itself was delayed from being a planned launch title on Sony’s new console this past November. There is a chance that new PlayStation 4 exclusives may be announced for release this year at Sony’s E3 presentation, though given the continued rise of development costs and demands on the new next-gen consoles especially, it’s unlikely that Sony would be sitting on a big PlayStation 4 exclusive announcement for this year that the public doesn’t already know about.

Regardless, several highly anticipated multi-platform games will release towards the end of 2014 for PlayStation 4 to help fill the void of The Order: 1886. These include and aren’t limited to: Batman: Arkham Knight, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Far Cry 4, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Evolve, The Evil Within, Alien: Isolation, Destiny, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and the newly-announced LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham.
