With exactly one year to go before the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in theatres, the long-awaited sophomore chapter of the big screen DC Cinematic Universe, Warner Bros., via EW, has celebrated the occasion by giving us yet another peek at a crucial DC character’s portrayal in the upcoming movie. Following the Wonder Woman reveal at last year’s San-Diego Comic-Con, and the more recent Aquaman reveal last month, we get our first look at a big villain in the movie this time, with the first official image of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor!

Yes, this officially puts to bed the speculation that Eisenberg’s Luthor may not be bald, with the baldness being one of the key identifiers of Lex Luthor throughout his many portrayals. He is indeed bald as can be, with director, Zack Snyder speaking a bit more about how Eisenberg’s Luthor will be separate from the former live-action incarnations played by Gene Hackman, John Shea, Michael Rosenbaum and Kevin Spacey at varying points throughout the Man of Steel’s history in movies and television.
“He’s not like any of the other Lexes you’ve seen, that’s for sure” Snyder begins. “Other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another to himself. And bald, of course… Our Lex is disarming, and he’s not fake. He says what he believes and he says what’s on his mind. If you can unravel the string and decipher what he means, it’s all there.”
If you look closely, you can also see that Eisenberg’s Luthor is wearing what appears to be either a prison jumpsuit, or perhaps a sport hoodie, though the monochromatic image makes it a bit difficult to tell either way. Could this line up with earlier reports that Eisenberg’s Luthor came from humble beginnings on the streets, and possibly rose from gang affiliation? We’ll have to wait and see.
Regardless, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will come to theatres on March 25th, 2016.
