In a move that actually surprised no one, Rod Fergusson and newly-renamed studio The Coalition (formerly Black Tusk Studios), announced Gears of War Ultimate Edition for Xbox One.

The game is a full remaster of the original Gears of War–think Halo: Anniversary Edition–completely redone in 1080p and running at a blistering 60 frames per second. No footage of the game was shown, so whether it has actually been remastered the same way Halo and Halo 2 have been remains to be seen.

If this is just an up-scaling, we’re not sure how excited we could possibly get about it. We will of course get the game and deliver a review, but here’s hoping there’s more than just some new textures to Marcus Fenix’s hairline.

In additional news about the game, there is a public beta of the game launching immediately.

The full version, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, launches August 25th on Xbox One.

Update: Pricing for the game has been announced by The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson at $39.99 U.S.
