Earlier today, Square Enix and Deck Nine partnered to release the first episode of their three-part mini-series, Life is Strange: Before the Storm. As such, “Awake” is now available for download on your PlayStation 4, Xbox One or PC devices, with two additional episodes to follow at later dates.

A prequel to the first Life is Strange series, Before the Storm centres on Chloe and the close bond she shares with Rachel Amber prior to the latter girl going missing. Through this set-up, the game will explore friendship and what it means to have that one special friend, which is something that has been hit upon quite often during game’s marketing campaign and within its latest video, “An Open Letter,” which tackles the themes of friendship, love and support.

Square Enix Vice President for Brand Marketing, Jon Brooke, said:

“I wanted to capture the emotion and spirit of Life is Strange in a way that you don’t usually see in video game advertising. As a game, it braves to be different, harnessing emotions rarely seen in video games and I wanted the advertising to match this. I am really pleased with how it turned out. It’s designed to remind us that life is all about our relationships and a strong friendship can change everything. I hope everyone can relate to that.”
