Infinity Ward is developing Call of Duty 2022

In 2019, Activision released a reimagining of the Modern Warfare sub-franchise within the mega Call of Duty series.

The game, developed by Infinity Ward, who also made the original trilogy of Modern Warfare titles from 2007 through 2011, is among the highest-rated titles in the franchise for the last decade.

In a recent tweet, the studio, which Activision rotates with other studios Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch, to make Call of Duty games, announced that it is working on the next entry in the franchise, and it only stands to reason that they’re going to unveil Modern Warfare 2 later this year.

At the end of 2019’s Modern Warfare, (spoilers, but it’s been two years) a cutscene shows Captain Price putting his team together, including those in the original games’ Task Force 141, so it only stands to reason that this is Infinity Ward’s next game.

Use of the series’ tagline “Stay frosty” all but confirms it.

While parent company Activision is keeping hush on the actual details of the story (or the title of the game), they have said that it is “the most ambitious plan in franchise history, with industry-leading innovation and a broadly appealing franchise setting.”

All this is coming over largely disappointing reception to 2021’s Call of Duty: Vanguard, though it was still the number one selling game in December according to The NPD Group.

If all goes according to the same release schedule that Call of Duty has been on since, well, the dawn of time, we can expect to see Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 out in October or November 2022.

Until then, stay frosty.
