The biggest shock of Sony’s PlayStation Showcase came from the announcement of a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake. Yes, KOTOR will return in updated and modern form, bringing with it lots of nostalgia.
Over twenty years may have passed since it first released, but Knights of the Old Republic remains one of the most talked about video games in existence. It was beloved then, and it’s still beloved now, no matter how much time has passed. Of course, it also helps that a lot of adult gamers grew up playing it.
Aspyr Media has been tasked with handling development duties, and they’re promising to treat the classic with care. Through a PlayStation Blog post, Lead Producer Ryan Treadwell assured folks that KOTOR is in good hands. He also promised that the studio will modernize the experience for both fans and newcomers alike, and will do so using “modern tech, features, visuals and more, while maintaining the integrity of the story and characters that we’ve come to cherish.”
If you’ve never played Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, you’re in for a treat. It’s a large-scale RPG with a broad scope, and one that provides not only challenging gameplay and an interesting storyline set in one of the most popular fictional universes in existence, but important moments of player choice as well.
I’m personally looking forward to revisiting this experience, because I didn’t get far the first time around. My old computer could barely run it, and that made for a slow and unenjoyable time.
This Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake will be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive. That said, it’s also coming to PC.
